Adam Yauch
Adam Yauch, the raspy-throated rapper known as MCA whose rhyming skills helped make the Beastie Boys one of the most influential hip-hop groups, died May 4 in New York. He was 47 years old. Adam was a major factor in the Beastie Boys’ evolution from their early incarnation, as testosterone-driven pranksters, to their later years as sonic experimenters, as socially conscious rappers , championing the cause of freedom in Tibet, and as keepers of old-school hip-hop memories. The Beastie Boys became an institution.
I know that hearing Paul Revere for the first time was an unforgettable moment, and listening to the Beastie Boys License to Ill Vinyl album for the first time is something I remember to this day.
Adam “MCA” Yauch’s contributions to music, various industries, causes and culture will stand as a tribute to his considerable talents and energies.
My condolences to his family and friends
